We were back down there today for the SNO's birthday party. They got to groom and primp the two mini Shetlands who are remarkably patient about that sort of thing, then bounce around on some bigger ponies. Éowyn chose the other Fjord that lives there, Fleur, who is even fatter than Bunty

Then of course there was cake, a pink version of the Fat Pony cake this time.....

Yes, Ali is my eldest daughter, she rides Sky, the sometimes spotty but mostly muddy pony. The SNO is the Small Naughty One, my younger daughter, Éowyn.

Going for a hack, or hacking out is just another way of saying going for a ride out and about in the countryside rather than riding in the sand school.

TREC, or Techniques de Randonnée Équestre de Compétition to give it its full name, is a discipline invented in France in the Seventies designed to test a horse and rider partnership doing the kind of stuff you'd need for hacking out. It's a 3 part competition, firstly the orientation which is when you get a map and have to follow your way round without getting lost and keeping to the speed allowed, then the control of paces, you have to canter as slowly as possible and walk as fast as possible and the last bit is like an obstacle course for horses, you have to do various things like go under low poles, get on and off without the horse moving, jump a small jump, go up or down a steep slope or step, that kind of thing. If you look in the TREC/Endurance bit of the Disciplines section on here there should be some more details and pics. It's great fun :-D

Mini pony club show today, great fun, she came first in the best turned out  , must have been due to the Teflon coated Fjord  , 6th in the dressage and fourth in the jumping. She was the only one not on a lead rein so I reckon she did pretty well.

Her jumping vid is here, that pony is a saint  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10 ... =2&theater

I ended up calling the dressage tests, helping build the SJ course and on the way out, help a total stranger load their reluctant horse. Knackered now, time for a :wine:
