Today - we had our first hack out on our own, having spent the last few weeks getting him to the point where he is confident out in front of Hannibal
We left the yard with just a slight hesitation and did a nice hours ride on quiet roads and into the forest - Simon and Henri came along for the walk and to support if nec but we soon left them behind and he was an absolute star. tbh he was no different than he is in company and bar one v fast spin (not sure what for but probably a horse eating sparrow) he was v relaxed - we came home on the buckle end and he didnt even call to the others as we approached the house just calmly walked through the yard and out to the field ......

so v different to the insecure, scared horse who arrived in february - who I couldnt even lead away from the others in the field without him having a panic attack and breaking away to get back to them

I am really enjoying working with him - he is v opinionated and can be argumentative but when you get him 'on-side' he is fantastic ....

Sounds just like a little yellow mare I know ;) It's great when they decide you are someone who they can trust, isn't it? :D

How about some more pics of the handsome boy?

The steering is fine Trudi if I use the pair of reins which are attached to a rope noseband but as soon as you touch his mouth he just 'turns off' the head goes down and he's gone (not literally but as far as getting him to listen to you goes!!)however, we did spend a bit of time working on this today and I did start to get a bit of 'feel' - he is def much happier bitless but I would like to be able to school him in a bit and perhaps compete a bit in dressage - for the moment I think I will go back to hacking him in the hackamore as he seems happiest in that but have also ordered one of the rope bosals like Helen has so I can use it under his bridle when he has a bit in.

Not sure if he has grown in height but he has certainly filled out quite a bit
