Saw someone asking this on FB...so...do you or don't you wear gloves when riding or handling?

No. They encourage you to hang on ( people say oh, wear gloves or you will get rope burn). You don't hang on you LET GO

I do wear gloves riding in freezing cold weather, but that's nothing to do with the horse

I hate riding in gloves ... so, no, except when its really cold

I might wear some if handing a youngster that I know may mis-behave and I cant just let go ...

you can always let go - I use a 15 foot rope, they've usually calmed down by the time they get out to the last loop of that

Hate gloves, never wear them (apart from my archery glove for the bow hand which is more hole than glove  ). You just can't "feel" properly in gloves! And I hate having my fingers covered up. If it's really freezing I might break out the fingerless mittens......

Another who doesn't do gloves, I only wear then for a interdressge show, although I do now have some non leather extra long reins that are so slippery when wet, I think I will have too wear them when it rains and also when it's so hot the sweat make them wet, Debz did say to try the cycling gloves as they are sort of fingerless, Oh I did always wear gloves when long reining, as they where quite course and even with out pulling they could make your hands sore after an while

I'm pleased I'm not alone  There is a judge at ID who is a real stickler for them- personally I don't agree that it gives you a better contact (unless like M-E says there is a chance of wet slippy reins) but it feels too 'static' in terms of contact which isn't what I'm after. Safety aside (my students are all adults and can decide for themelves) I don't use them unless it's to keep warm On the CRC almost everyone wore them.

That's one of the reasons I use rope reins, no slipping even when they're sweating. Not that I ever hold them tight anyway.......or even at all a lot of the time
