Both interesting; let's hope more can be found out about the gut to help prevent colic. The second one, amazing what is being done with DNA. This bit not so encouraging but hardly surprising:
Researchers also found a high level of harmful genetic mutations in modern horses, compared to their ancient ancestors, that likely accumulated as a result of inbreeding.

Yep, the vet was telling me when I took Tari in that many genetic problems have been caused by breeding for specific characteristics, like colour......
